Legionella Testing
Legionella is the name given to the group of bacteria responsible for a number of illnesses including Legionnaires' disease - a pneumonia type of infection of the lower respiratory tract.
Legionella bacteria occur naturally within watercourses such as rivers, lakes, streams and reservoirs. The bacteria proliferate best in temperatures of between 20°C and 50°C. At temperatures below 20°C, the bacteria survive in a dormant state and can even tolerate freezing conditions. Proliferation occurs best at 37°C (core body temperature), which is why Legionella bacteria makes such an efficient attack on the human body.
